42nd ANNUAL HARVEST FAIR
SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2008
9:30 AM—2:30 PM

Fellowship, fun and the raising of funds are the goals of this year's Harvest Fair and all preceding ones. These aims were the intent of the original founders of the Fair and they remain so today. It takes more than 100 volunteers and donations from most of the church members to make a successful event each year. Imagine the fellowship and fun of those involved in putting on this very special and profitable effort each time and picture yourself helping in one of the following ways.

October 12th How can we be a “Greener” church? Join Bob Howard and Ray Dudley as they offer us the insights they have learned about greening our church.

October 19th A very significant conversation begins as three panelists share their thoughts and experiences of race on the Shoreline and in Connecticut. We often think that race is not an issue here, but may find that as anti-racists we still have work to do.

New in the library is an issue of the magazine Religious Education, devoted to the Revised Standard Version of the Bible, giving the reasons behind the undertaking, problems involved, the names and positions of the translators, and the hoped for se of the finished product.  Essential and fascinating background information.

They didn’t see it coming. It barreled up the Northeast Coast and decimated the shoreline from Providence to New Haven. Before it was over, First Church’s glorious steeple lay as a pile of rubble on Church Street.

FIRST CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, UCC, MENDON ILLINOIS
At our August 24th service, a visiting and excited couple was anxious to share their JOY with our church family. Paul and Glenna Mealiff were here from the First Congregational Church, UCC in Mendon. Illinois. They were pleased to tell us the story of their church being born in spirit in Guilford, Connecticut in the autumn of 1831. Mr. Mealiff is proud to be a direct descendant of Col. John B. Chittenden who led an expedition from Guilford into the “wilds of the then far West - Illinois” in search of a wider opportunity for religious and financial independence. The Mealiffs wanted to see and worship in the very place from which their church originated.
