First Church Guilford Assists in Resettling an Afghan Family of Three

Shoreline Interfaith Refugee Resettlement (SHIRR) co-sponsor group

of volunteers from Temple Beth Tikvah and First Congregational

Church, in partnership with Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services

(IRIS), are thrilled that January 31, 2018 we welcomed a family of three

from Afghanistan to their apartment in Branford. The parents and their 2

½ year old son are settling into their apartment set up with furniture,

clothing, kitchen supplies, books, toys and more that was generously

donated. Volunteers from SHIRR are tutoring English, transporting the

family to appointments and helping acclimate them to their new

surroundings. The husband speaks excellent English and both parents

have college educations. Next step is to find them jobs. Contact Debbie

at peluse@comcast.net with questions or possible employment

opportunities.

For those who wish to make a financial contribution to help in this

resettlement, please send your check made payable to First

Congregational Church of Guilford, 122 Broad St., Guilford, CT  06437.

On the memo line please write:  Afghan Family Resettlement 2018.

Thank you, in advance, for your generosity!
