This Week At First Church: Children, Teen and Family Activities

Children, Teen, and Family Ministries

SUNDAY, 5/20

See below for Upcoming Events, Teen Happenings, and Kids’ Choirs

@10AM

For the rest of May, we will be preparing our children for our official Children’s Day on June 3rd.  Children’s Day is a time when we celebrate our children, all they’ve learned over our program year.  They will lead us in the different components of worship, and our faith community will thank and recognize all of our Sunday School teachers, teen assistants, and Confirmation mentors.

This Sunday in Sunday School, our children will rehearse for the ‘sermon’ portion of Children’s Day, and begin writing the scripts for each grade’s component in the service.  If your child will be with us on June 3rd, please reply to this email with their name and grade so we can get a head count as to whom will be here!

**As we all try to navigate the reality of technology and electronics in our world, it’s often difficult to get ourselves and our children to unplug.  Monthly, we will be offering spiritual practice activities (creative ways to connect to God) to help with this balance.  Click here for the MAY SPIRITUAL PRACTICE that can be done at home to cultivate a new way to engage with God and each other.

UPCOMING EVENTS

D.A.Y. WEEK, 5/19-26:

Ten years ago, the First Congregational Church played a key leadership role in in organizing a coalition of community groups to change the culture of teen substance abuse in Guilford. With strong youth leadership, the coalition organized Guilford DAY. The effort is based on positive, fun, and visible messages, and ongoing support of the message from many community organizations. Success depends on youth who are willing to stand up, to speak out, and to help each other. Despite what may be prominent on social media, the strong majority of Guilford kids live grateful, positive, healthy, substance-free lives.

Please consider displaying purple during DAY WEEK May 19 – 26 and come to the Guilford Fairgrounds on Sat. May 19 for the fun of the LifeLinx/Guilford D.A.Y. /Nick Kruczek 5k Color Run/Walk for Recovery at 10:00 am, signup starting at 9:00 am. The profits will benefit Lifelinx, a charitable group which operates sober houses in Guilford and Madison, and helps people in recovery from addiction.  **See flyer for more details, or email church members Peter Palumbo or Bo Huhn with questions.
