Community Peacemakers will be honored
For many years we have had a wonderful tradition of celebrating the United Nation’s International Day of Peace, September 21st, on the Guilford Green as a united community. This year, based on the Covid- 19 virus, our program will still be held but in a more limited yet celebratory manner. All events will take place on the steps of the First Congregational Church, Guilford. Church members are invited to attend. Please wear face masks and stand at an appropriate distance from each other.
This year we will begin the program by honoring Peacemakers from the Town of Guilford. First Selectman Matt Hoey will be presenting awards to five members of the Guilford Human Rights Commission. A second award will go to Moira McGovern, a member of PF, who initiated the Navajo Nation project in Northern Arizona.
The traditional moment of silence will be held at noon with the ringing of church bells followed by the reading of peace statements. The Peace Pledge will be distributed and participants will be asked to recite the Peace Pledge together. There will be a closing prayer.
It is our hope to video tape the program so it may be watched on Facebook-live.
