First Church Reads: Children's Letters to God

Children’s Letters to God is one of my favorite little books! I have all three editions and it is a 'go to' when I need to refocus on how children think react and express themselves.

"First Church Reads" is a newer feature section of the Steeple where staff members or members of the church may be invited to offer book and formation recommendations that specifically help deepen spiritual life. Please email Jake if you would like to write a resource or book recommendation. This week we have recommendations from Judi Wallace

Children’s Letters to God is one of my favorite little books! I have all three editions and it is a 'go to' when I need to refocus on how children think react and express themselves.

I have so many favorites but want to share a couple with you:

"Dear God, Thank you for my baby brother, but what I prayed for was a puppy.  Joyce"

"Dear God, Is Reverend Coe a friend of yours, or do you just know him through business?  Donny"

"Dear God, I think about you sometimes even when I'm not praying.  Elliot"

The following is an excerpt from a Google review which sums up the book perfectly: "Children’s Letters to God reveals again the surprising pleasures and provocations of what happens when kids decide to send a letter off to their maker. Whether posing a question begging a favor or expressing doubt or joy these letters are notable for their refreshing directness unexpected humor and startling clarity of thought. It’s like seeing the world through a child’s bright eyes—eyes untouched by cynicism eyes brimming with innocence wonder and curiosity."
