"First Church Reads" is a new feature section of the Steeple where staff members or members of the church may be invited to offer book and formation recommendations that specifically help deepen spiritual life.

This week, we have a guest column, "First Church at the Movies" by Kristen Dwyer who has been testing out family movies for us! She has submitted the following recommended list for everyone:
Here is our list of watched movies and a list of to-be watched movies. Most nights we all pile onto our couch and hope for the best with the evening's selection.
Watched: Big, Miracle, Miracle Invincible, Mrs. Doubtfire, A League of Their Own, Remember the Titans, The Cutting Edge Wonder Instant Family (better for tweens and older), Back to the Future, The Goonies, Walk, Ride, Rodeo, Bethany, Hamilton: Unstoppable, Mary Poppins Returns, Newsies, The Princess Bride, Second Hand Lions, Sleepless in Seattle, One Crazy Summer, Swiss Family Robinson, Cool Runnings, The Sandlot, Yours Mine & Ours (new version), Overboard (original), The Parent Trap (original), Searching for Bobby Fisher (the kids thought it was boring), National Treasure
To Be Watched: 42, Dreamer, Jumangi, Troop Zero, Fly Away Home, Rudy, Glory Road, Hoosiers, What About Bob?, Hook, Bend It Like Beckham, Stuart Little, The Spy Next Door, Oscar, The Mighty Ducks
It's a challenge to find family friendly movies that appeal to a wide range of ages. I hope this is helpful!
Be well,
Kristen Dwyer
