First Church Reads: The Cross and the Lynching Tree

"First Church Reads" is a new feature section of the Steeple where staff members or members of the church may be invited to offer book and formation recommendations that specifically help deepen spiritual life.

Today, our resource for "First Church Reads" isn't a book, it isn't an article, it isn't a newspaper...a document... or a story. Rather, this week, the staff of First Church recommend one thing above all else, the Sermon, "The Cross and the Lynching Tree," by The Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III of Trinity UCC in Chicago, Illinois.

The Rev. Dr. Ginger Brasher-Cunningham

The Rev. Dr. Ginger Brasher-Cunningham, Lead Minister, has served First Church since November 2015. She received her Doctor of Ministry in Pastoral Care and Counseling after serving in prison, hospice, and hospital chaplaincy settings. Ginger has pastored congregations in Massachusetts and North Carolina. She and her minister/ chef/ author husband, The Rev. Milton Brasher-Cunningham, live in Guilford with their three schnauzers and remain dedicated Red Sox fans.
